The Pattern Forms is a collaboration between the Advisory Circle's Jon Brooks and Ed Macfarlane and Edd Gibson of Friendly Fires. Combining the former's well-cultivated vintage synth expertise with Macfarlane's crooning vocals and Gibson's atmospheric guitars, the production hits a mark somewhere in the middle between the swooning synth pop of Friendly Fires and the thoughtful avant pop of the Advisory Circle. First coming together to record a single, "Fluchtwege"/"The Sacrifice," for the Ghost Box label's Other Voices series in 2015, the trio felt that process worked so well, they'd keep at it and record an album.
