Biography
Mixing R&B and urban funk rhythms with choral gospel and praise & worship anthems, Ricky Dillard New G (also known as New Generation and New Generation Chorale) have brought a modern spin to worship music through several albums, often recorded live at various churches, cathedrals, and halls where the group's polished look and high-energy performances are best displayed. The first three albums -- 1990's The Promise, 1993's A Holy Ghost Take-Over, and 1995's Hallelujah -- appeared from Malaco Records, after which Dillard New G moved over to Crystal Rose Records for 1996's Worked It Out, 2000's New Limit, and 2004's Unplugged: The Way Church Used to Be (even though the set featured electric instruments, however unobtrusive). Dillard established his own Animated Entertainment Light Records imprint for The 7th Episode: Live in Toronto, which appeared in 2007. The group's eighth album, Keep Living, which was recorded live in Detroit, followed under the same imprint in 2011. All eight of the those records reached the Top 15 of the gospel chart, with Keep Living marking Dillard's debut in the Bilboard 200. Amazing, his first gospel number one, followed in 2014 and reached number 28 on the Billboard 200. It also earned a Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Album. Three years later, Ricky Dillard New G delivered 10, which returned him to the top of the gospel chart. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
