Biography
A fine bop-oriented flutist, Ali Ryerson is the daughter of guitarist Art Ryerson. She started on flute at age eight and had extensive classical training, graduating from Hartt College at the University of Hartford. However, Ryerson developed a strong interest in jazz and has maintained a versatile career, playing both classical and jazz. Ryerson spent three years freelancing in Belgium and then became a top studio player in New York. She performed with Art Farmer, Lou Donaldson, Maxine Sullivan, and Stephane Grappelli, among others, and has recorded two sets as a leader for Bob Thiele's Red Baron label and several excellent sets for Concord. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
