Lyrically, Marling was inspired by the poetry of Edward Lear and Ivor Cutler, and the Surrealist movement. Musically, the duo married the modern folk of Marling's output and the folktronica of Lindsay's band Tunng. Their self-titled debut record was released in 2018 and was preceded by the lead single "Curse of the Contemporary." Following the release, they went back to working on their own material, with Marling issuing her seventh album, 2020's Song for Our Daughter, and Lindsay producing albums for Dana Gavanski and Douglas Dare, as well as issuing Tunng's eighth release, Dead Club. Reconvening in 2020 at Lindsay's studios in Margate, England, the duo started working on the follow-up to their debut, with the resulting album, Animal, arriving in mid-2021. ~ Bekki Bemrose, Rovi
