The Pollyseeds
from Los Angeles, CA
Biography
Following Velvet Portraits, a set nominated for a Grammy award in the category of Best R&B Album, Terrace Martin's next project as a leader and facilitator was the similarly collaborative and genre-blending Pollyseeds. The multi-instrumentalist and producer kept his strong connection to the environment that made him by titling the Pollyseeds album The Sounds of Crenshaw, Vol. 1, after his native Los Angeles district. Released in 2017 on Ropeadope, the same label that issued Velvet Portraits, the album likewise moved across jazz, R&B, and hip-hop with contributions from many of the same associates. Martin was flanked by the likes of keyboardist Robert Glasper, drummer Robert Searight, saxophonist Kamasi Washington, guitarist Marlon Williams, instrumentalist Craig Brockman, rapper Problem (credited as Chachi), and singers Rose Gold and Wyann Vaughn. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
