Biography
Singer and actress Kristy McNichol was born in Los Angeles, CA, on Sept 14, 1962. Her given name is Christine Ann McNichol. Her mother, Carollyne McNichol, happened to take small acting roles now and then. When she went on calls, she carried her three children with her.

McNichol learned her way around movie lots and backstages early on. When she was seven years old, she landed her first acting role, a part in a Kraft Cheese commercial. She went on to appear in many other commercials, as well as doing numerous guest spots in popular television series like #Starsky and Hutch, #The Bionic Woman, and #The Love Boat. Soon McNichol went from guest to star, landing roles in #Apple's Way, and then in #Family. The latter won her a People's Choice award and two Emmys.

This young actress had one more ace up her sleeve -- her singing ability. In the late '70s she did several musical spots on series like #The Donny and Marie Show, #Dick Clark's Live Wednesday, and performed numbers on specials such as #The Carpenters Christmas Special in 1977.

In 1978 McNichol was called in for her first big film role in Burt Reynolds' movie, #The End. That same year she, along with older bother Jimmy McNichol, recorded a self-titled debut album, Kristy Jimmy McNichol. It was released under the RCA Records label. The album carries disco style tunes like Slow Dance. The brother-and-sister duo also released a two-sided single, with He's a Dancer and the hit He's So Fine on the flip. The single, He's So Fine, made it onto the Cash Box Top 100 single charts.

After the album, and some touring, McNichol went back to the movies, staring in films like #Little Darlings. In 1981 she won a role beside Dennis Quaid in the film #The Night the Lights Went out in Georgia. McNichol and Quaid played as a brother and sister country western singing act that ended up at the wrong bar in the wrong town. McNichol got the chance to do a few country tunes in the movie and on the album with the same title. ~ Charlotte Dillon, Rovi
