Soleima
from Copenhagen, Denmark
Biography
Soleima is the nom de plume of pop star/singer/songwriter Sarah Mariegaard, formerly of the Danish hip-hop collective Flødeklinikken. Emerging in 2016, her evocative mix of dreamy indie pop, R&B, and psych-tinged, left-field electro-pop invokes names like FKA Twigs, Lykke Li, and fellow Scandinavians Karen Marie Ørsted (aka MØ) and Ellinor Olovsdotter (aka Elliphant).
Based out of Copenhagen, Soleima dropped a handful of well-received singles, including the sugary "My Boi" in 2016, in anticipation of her debut EP, No.14, which was released the following year via Parlophone. Late 2017 saw the release of "Paper," followed in January 2018 by the bouncy single "Low Life," which appeared on that year's Bulldog EP. She parted ways with Parlophone the following year and inked a deal with Atlantic. Powerslide, her debut full-length effort and first release for the major label, arrived in 2020. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
