The Cimarrons were an early-'60s rock & roll band from Birmingham, England, who were notable as the first professional band of future Move member Rick Price. Their membership, in addition to Price on guitar and vocals, included Alan Hicks on guitar and vocals; Lee Zenith (aka Ray Hyde) on lead vocals; Maurice Preece on bass guitar and vocals; and Dave Spillsbury on drums. At various times, as was typical of such semi-professional outfits, various other members passed through their lineup. They supported such acts as the Hollies, Johnny Kidd the Pirates, and Cliff Bennett the Rebel Rousers, but were never able to break through in their own right to headline status. The totality of their recorded legacy seems to be the song Pretend, recorded for a Birmingham multi-group compilation showcase album called Brum Beat. The band knew the Beatles' repertory -- including all of the Lennon and McCartney originals -- by heart. and put on a good show, but apart from placing second in the Locarno Ballroom Rhythm Group Competition, they got little recognition for their work.
