Biography
Formed in 2012, Love and Death is a Christian alt-metal band spearheaded by nu-metal pioneer Brian Head Welch, best known for his work as a founding member of Korn. The band's inspirational and versatile 2013 debut, Between Here Lost, and like-minded 2021 release, Perfectly Preserved, found favor with both secular and non-secular audiences alike.

Featuring Welch on guitar and vocals, as well as guitarist J.R. Bareis, drummer Dan Johnson, and bassist Michael Valentine, the band merge the detuned, guitar-heavy sound Welch helped to popularize with a more inspirational message. While they made their debut in 2012 with the digitally released EP Chemicals in 2012, their first full-length effort, Between Here Lost, arrived on Tooth Nail in early 2013 and made a strong showing on multiple charts. Over the next several years, Welch and a newly re-tooled lineup consisting of Bareis, drummer Isaiah Perez, and guitarist/bassist/co-songwriter Jasen Rauch of Breaking Benjamin, pieced together the group's sophomore effort. Recorded in Nashville, Los Angeles, and Chicago, the Earache-issued Perfectly Preserved arrived in 2021 and featured guest spots from Lacey Sturm (Flyleaf) and Keith Wallen. ~ Gregory Heaney, Rovi
