Biography
Formed in Worcester, Wildcats were originally a three-piece consisting of singers Fay Shugrue and Jeff Adams as well as organist Donny Lavin. All three had been longtime musicians with various blues bands, but the group's style and penchant for covering obscure songs made the group a great live act to catch. In 1998, Wildcats released its debut album, Blue in the Face, and continued touring around the New England area. After seeing longtime bass player Steve Stavropoulos and former Robin Steiger Group drummer Bob Tula perform, the two musicians were added to the band. The fuller sound and energy was captured on the band's second release, Live at Gilrein's. Culled from a November 2000 performance at the Worcester House of Blues, the album features original and cover songs. Wildcats have also covered Miles Davis, Doc Pomus, and Janis Joplin, among others. In 2001, the band signed to Black Rose Records and continued touring. In May 2002, Wildcats entered the studio for one month to record its third album, scheduled for a late summer 2002 release. During this time, Fay Shugrue married Jeff Adams and became Fay Adams. Wildcats have performed with the likes of Savoy Brown and have been well-received in blues magazine publications. ~ Jason MacNeil, Rovi
