The mellow, bittersweet indie pop of Coco combines the warm, refined surfaces of classic soft rock and the tight, gentle harmonies of bygone eras. A collaboration between members of Dirty Projectors, Lucius, and Pavo Pavo, they released their eponymous debut in 2021.

Sharing vocal duties, including trading lead, Maia Friedman (Dirty Projectors, Uni Ika Ai), Dan Molad (Lucius, CHIMNEY), and Oliver Hill (Pavo Pavo, Dustrider) spent a year and half putting together their Coco debut, as schedules permitted in places like Los Angeles, Nashville, and Spicewood, Texas. Molad mixed all but one track on the album, which was mixed by Phil Weinrobe (Kings of Convenience, Adrianne Lenker). The trio released a series of singles anonymously in 2020 before revealing their identities for the full-length Coco, which featured a cover photo obscuring them underwater.
