Biography
Holding a master's degree in psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, multi-instrumentalist Brian Jackson is a founding member of I Am Spoonbender, a West Coast avant-garde outfit named in honor of an utterance from the so-called telekinetic wonder Uri Geller. The latter inspiration eventually returned the tribute by describing I Am Spoonbender as his favorite band.

The project began as a collaboration with Jackson's old friend Dustin Donaldson, whose talents include synthesizer, drums, vocals, and production. Jackson added synthesizer as well as bass and computer work; the pair also built its own recording studio in 1997. Cup Iwata, a former member of Vancouver band Cub, was added to the lineup while taping of the first album was in progress. A fourth member, synthesizer and turntable player Marc Kate, joined up when positive response to the release of the group's CD dictated a series of live performances.

Jackson also works at mixing and mastering on recording for artists such as Neurosis, Stillupsteypa, Fennesz, and Quintron. He left I Am Spoonbender early in the new millennium and started up a new and presumably unforgettable new band entitled Memory Systems. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
