Biography
Theorbist and founding member of the group Forma Antiqva, Daniel Zapico is a specialist in early music, both as a performer and as an educator. Born in Asturias, Spain, he attended the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona, and earned his Master's degree from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in musicology, music education, and early music interpretation. Zapico has played at music festivals in Spain, and toured internationally with Forma Antiqva, joining his brothers Aarón Zapico and Pablo Zapico in strongly rhythmic performances of Spanish Baroque music. Zapico and his brothers have been honored as the resident ensemble at the Auditorio Palacio de Congresos Príncipe Felipe in Oviedo. Zapico also performs with Pulsata3, La Caravaggia, La Ritirata, L'Arpeggiata, and the Orquestra Barroca de Sevilla. He frequently joins other ensembles as a member of the continuo section in operatic productions and concerts. As an educator, Zapico has taught at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Zaragoza and the Academia de Música Antigua de Gijón, concentrating on early plucked instruments, and he has led seminars on transcription at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón. ~ Blair Sanderson, Rovi
