Biography
Talented and interesting vocalist, songwriter, and interpreter of classic blues and jazz. Influences include Bessie Smith, Dinah Washington, Alberta Hunter, and Joe Williams. Paula's recordings generally feature topflight musicians backing her sexy, stylized, understated vocal mannerisms in a variety of settings from solo guitar accompaniment to horn-driven big band in full swing. She continues to perform regularly in and around New York City, along with festival appearances and tours of the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Paula has performed and recorded with, among others, John Hammond, David Bromberg, and Dr. John. She was nominated for a Handy Blues Award in 1982 and a New York City Music Award in 1986. ~ Niles J.
