Biography
The Band of Hope were a 1990s-era acoustic folk group formed by Roy Bailey, who also sang lead. Their repertory was politically focused, though their instrumentation was traditional. The other members were Martin Carthy (vocals, guitar), Steáfán Hannigan (uilleann pipes, half long pipes, whistle, percussion, bodhrán, cittern), John Kirkpatrick (vocals, button accordion, melodeon), and Dave Swarbrick (fiddle, mandolin). Chris Parkinson later replaced Kirkpatrick, but not before the original lineup recorded an album, Rhythm Reds, released on Musikfolk. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
