Biography
Netherlands-based DJ Mason (Iason Chronis) first became interested in the world of the DJ as a youngster. As a teenager, he was DJ'ing for friends at parties, and he eventually graduated to the club world, becoming a resident at Electronation. He toured extensively in Asia and Europe, and in 2006 landed a U.K. (and Continental Europe, for that matter) hit single with the track "Exceeder." He was also a violin player, and his skills were such that he played with DJ Tiesto. In 2009, Mason launched his own label, Animal Language, and released several double A-side singles including "Front Row Chemistry" and "The Amsterdam Tapes." In 2011, he released the album They Are Among Us, featuring guest performances by such artist as Kurtis Blow, Sway, Sam Sparro, and Roisin Murphy. The album Zoa followed in 2014 and like its predecessor, it featured big names like Outkast's Big Boi. Further success came in 2015 when he released the single "Fashion Killa (Papapapa)" through Island Records, and the track rose to number one on the electronic music-oriented store Betaport. In 2016, he officially signed to Island and began working with Azealia Banks. Following some homophobic comments that Banks made on Twitter, Mason broke ties with the rapper/singer and began work with U.K. grime artists Stefflon Don, who were featured on the "Fashion Killa (Papapapa)" single. In 2016, he mixed and compiled the Toolroom Miami Poolside album. ~ Chris True, Rovi
