Detroit techno producer Stacey Pullen released a 12" EP, Get Down, and a full-length album, Electronic Poetry, as Kosmic Messenger for Elypsia Records in 1997. Previous to these releases, Pullen had established himself as one of the most promising artists to arise in the fertile Detroit techno scene of the late '80s and early '90s, beginning with his work as Bango for Derrick May's Fragile label. He then went on to record an album as Silent Phase for May's other, more well-known label, Transmat. The album, The Theory of Silent Phase (1995), was simultaneously released by the Belgian label RS, helping Pullen attain recognition in both America and Europe. Next came Pullen's entry in the DJ Kicks mix-album series in 1996, setting the stage for his debut as Kosmic Messenger in 1997 on Elypsia. However, following the 12" and the full-length, Pullen parted ways with Elypsia and retired the Kosmic Messenger moniker. In subsequent years he released only the occasional 12" on his own Black Flag label (Sweat) before finally returning quietly several years later in 2001 with another full-length, Today Is the Tomorrow You Were Promised Yesterday, this one released under his born name. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
