The Belbury Circle
Biography
The Belbury Circle is a collaboration between two of the most prominent figures associated with cult favorite Ghost Box, Jon Brooks (the Advisory Circle) and label co-founder Jim Jupp (Belbury Poly). While the two artists are often associated with making haunting music inspired by vintage sci-fi and horror soundtracks as well as pastoral psych-folk, the Belbury Circle's releases, 2013's Empty Avenues EP (with John Foxx) and the 2017 full-length Outward Journeys, blend library music with early synth pop.
Jupp co-founded the U.K.-based Ghost Box with graphic designer Julian House in 2004, and Brooks' the Advisory Circle became one of the first acts signed to the label. Belbury Poly and the Advisory Circle shared a split single as part of the Ghost Box Study Series in 2012. The first Belbury Circle release was the 2013 EP Empty Avenues, a collaboration with synth pop pioneer John Foxx. Outward Journeys, a full-length evoking memories of bygone technology and childhood day trips, appeared in 2017, with Foxx returning on two songs. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
