Biography
A global range of traditional influences have been combined through the music of the British trio, Old Rope String Band. While their repertoire is rooted in British and Celtic music, the group incorporates Cajun two-steps, Mexican polkas, and Spanish love songs. Their fast-paced, humor-filled performances have placed them among the best-loved bands in the United Kingdom. -The Glasgow-Herald wrote, "once they were merely hilarious, these days, they are devastating."

Formed in 1988, the Old Rope String Band combined the talents of Joe Scurfield, Pete Challenor, and Tim Dalling. A veteran of ceilidh, country, and bluegrass bands, including the Flop Eared Mule Ceilidh Band, Scurfield has balanced his involvement with the Old Rope String Band with solo performances as Joey, the Musical Clown. Challenor has played fiddle and banjo with Ian Carr as a duo and, with the addition of poet Keith Armstrong, a trio. A founding member of Flop Eared Mule Ceilidh Band, he continues to work with a hillbilly swing band, Howlin' at the Moon, and has accompanied champion clog dancer Jane Vipond. The newest member of the Old Rope String Band, Dalling previously played accordion and trumpet with numerous jazz and blues bands. A highly skilled actor, Dalling produced and starred in a one-man show, The Unhappy King. ~ Craig Harris, Rovi
