House and Land
from Asheville, NC
Biography
A North Carolina-based folk duo that pushes traditional Appalachian folk music through a modern composition sieve, House and Land were founded by multi-instrumentalists Sarah Louise Henson (12-string guitar, shruti box, bouzouki, vocals) and Black Twig Pickers and Pelt alum Sally Anne Morgan (fiddle, banjo, shruti box, vocals). Formed out of a shared love for traditional mountain songs and modern, experimental, and minimal music, the pair delivered an intoxicating rendering of ten classic Southern hymns and Appalachian ballads on their 2017 eponymous debut album, which was released via Thrill Jockey. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
