Chilean urban hip-hop act Makiza burst on the local scene with a self-produced album called Vida Salvaje, released in 1998. The band was formed a year earlier by Ana María Tijoux (aka Anita), Cristian Bórquez (Seo2), Gastón Gabarró (Cenzi), and Jean Paul Hourton (DJ Squat).
