Martin Freeman
Biography
While he's best known as an award-winning actor, Martin Freeman is also a passionate music fan who contributes to music-themed projects from time to time. As a boy, he first fell in love with punk before discovering mod music and culture, and later became a fan of soul, Motown, and jazz. In 2006, he curated the Motown compilation Martin Freeman Presents…Made to Measure, a double-disc set of his favorite songs from the label. That year, he also hosted The Great Unknown, a show on BBC Radio 2 that presented music from underrated artists. In 2009, he hosted an episode of BBC Two's The Culture Show, where he visited Motown's Detroit and Los Angeles studios and offices. Six years later, Freeman appeared in the video for "Pick It Up" by Paul Weller, one of his favorite artists. In 2016, Freeman appeared on a special edition of Acid Jazz Records founder Eddie Piller's radio show. The response was so great that it led to Jazz on the Corner, a 2018 compilation that featured one set of jazz favorites each from Piller and Freeman. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
