Biography
Tommy Scott was one of several outside songwriters to pen material for Them in the 1960s (others were Phil Coulter and Bert Berns). It's been speculated that Van Morrison was aggravated by getting supplied with tunes not from his own pen, but actually Scott's compositions suited him and Them pretty well. Scott was responsible for writing the jazzy Don't You Know and the Animals-like Call My Name, as well as cowriting I Can Only Give You Everything with Phil Coulter. Another of songs, Strangers, was recorded in the mid-1960s by Belfast band the Mad Lads on a demo, and was issued on the Big Beat compilation Belfast Beat Maritime Blues. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
