In the early '80s, drummer Philly Joe Jones, with the strong assistance of trumpeter Donald Sickler (who transcribed the arrangements), revived the music of Tadd Dameron in a nonet called Dameronia. Two Uptown records resulted (with such sidemen as Walter Davis, Jr., Britt Woodman, Frank Wess, and Cecil Payne) before Jones' 1985 death.
