Reco do Bandolim
Biography
Reco do Bandolim founded the Clube do Choro de Brasília (Brasília Choro Club) in 1978 with masters Waldir Azevedo, Avena de Castro, Pernambuco do Pandeiro, Bide da Flauta, and Jaime Ernest Dias. He had noted participation in the movement that instituted the choro in Central Brazil, where it didn't have a tradition. Nevertheless, by influence of Pernambuco do Pandeiro, João Tomé, Chico Gil, Avena de Castro, Celso do Clarinete, and Reco do Bandolim, Brasília (Federal District) was the first Brazilian city to have a school of choro. Ahead of the Clube do Choro, do Bandolim realized more than 100 spectacles with artists like Paulo Moura, Hélio Delmiro, Sivuca, Hermeto Pascoal, Cristóvão Bastos, Altamiro Carrilho, Zé dal Velha, Sebastião Tapajós, Armandinho Macedo, Guinga, Marco Pereira, Dois de Ouro, and Paulo Sérgio Santos, which attracted around 100,000 people. With his group Choro Livre, do Bandolim recorded the LP Reco do Bandolim Choro Livre in 1989, reissued as a CD in 1999. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
