An adventurous jazz supergroup, Aziza features the talents of tenor saxophonist Chris Potter, West African-born guitarist/vocalist Lionel Loueke, bassist Dave Holland, and drummer Eric Harland. Named after a mythological race of magical beings from West Africa, Aziza came together in 2015. Individually, the members have distinguished themselves across the jazz spectrum. At the center of the group is elder statesman Holland, a former Miles Davis alum with decades of experience leading his own ensembles. Along with their own solo projects, both Potter and Harland played with Holland prior to forming Aziza. Similarly, Loueke and Harland were previously associated with trumpeter Terence Blanchard. Together, Aziza bring their collective skills to bear on original, genre-bending material that touches upon swinging post-bop, angular electric fusion, and African traditions.
