Biography
Jazz supergroup the Cookers feature a handful of journeyman musicians who play passionate, high-energy post-bop in the tradition of such groups as Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and Horace Silver's '60s ensembles. Formed in 2007, the group originally included saxophonists Billy Harper and Craig Handy, trumpeters Eddie Henderson and David Weiss, pianist George Cables, bassist Cecil McBee, and drummer Billy Hart. The Cookers have released several albums, including Warriors (2010), Cast the First Stone (2010), and Believe (2012). In 2014, the group returned with its fourth studio album, Time Time Again, which featured new member Donald Harrison on saxophone. Two years later, they delivered The Call of the Wild and Peaceful Heart. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
