Friends since kindergarten, Jack Gilinsky and Jack Johnson gained a loyal following thanks to a series of short comedic videos they uploaded to the web in 2013. Music came a year later, first with the laid-back track "Distance" and then with the party cut "Wild Life." The latter climbed into the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 soon after the duo graduated from high school. In 2015, they released their high-ranking Calibraska EP, hit the road with Katelyn Jae and Dyllan Murray on the Pop Nation Tour, and appeared as featured artists on Murray's "Firecracker" single. They returned in 2017 with the Gone EP, their first release for a major label (Island). Later that year, they issued the single "Beg."
A flurry of singles arrived in 2018, including "Closure," "Stay with Me," and "Rise," the latter of which was a collaboration with Jonas Blue. The track was a Top Ten hit in numerous countries, earning over a dozen gold or platinum certifications. It appeared on both the producer's Blue album and the duo's debut full-length, A Good Friend Is Nice, which arrived in 2019. Gilinsky released his debut solo single, "My Love" (featuring Don Toliver), in 2020, and announced the duo's hiatus. "Lose Somebody" (featuring Iann Dior) followed, while Johnson (as JVCKJ) released the EP Pastel: The Early Days near the end of the year, and two further singles in 2021. In 2022, Jack Jack returned, once again as independent artists, with "Runaway." ~ David Jeffries & Paul Simpson, Rovi
