Biography
Formed in 2009 by Yourcodenameis:Milo and the Automatic member Paul Mullen, Young Legionnaire came about after Mullen and Bloc Party bassist Gordon Moakes hit it off during a one-off recording project put together by Mullen a few years earlier. When the two found both of their main gigs on hiatus for the winter, they decided to start their own project, recruiting La Roux’s touring drummer Will Bowerman to handle percussion duties. During the summer of the following year the band released its first single, Colossus/Iron Dream, which saw a limited vinyl release through Holy Roar Records. Young Legionnaire also replaced Bowerman (who needed to head back on the road with La Roux) with drummer Dan Pearson, and went back into the studio to begin work on their full-length debut. Working with Automatic producer Richard Jackson, the band recorded the driving Crisis Works, which was released in 2011 through Wichita Records. ~ Gregory Heaney, Rovi
