Born and raised in Toronto, Jahkoy Palmer started performing as a rapper under the name Raheem in his early teens. Just before he turned 20, he opted to change his stage name to his first name, releasing his first mixtape in 2013. Forward Thinking, his second self-issued tape, followed the next year and marked a stylistic transition to R&B. Emboldened by an affiliation with Def Jam and support from Elton John, formative influence Pharrell Williams, and high-profile DJ Zane Lowe, Jahkoy in 2016 released Foreign Water, an EP featuring "California Heaven," a ScHoolboy Q collaboration that entered Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart the following January and later peaked at number 31.
Following his first major chart placement, Jahkoy continued to release singles independently, and co-wrote "What About Me," a number 24 pop hit for Lil Wayne in 2018. Among his own additional singles, Jahkoy put together 404 and 323, EPs released respectively in 2019 and 2021. 323 was a prelude to Tangible, a full-length that landed near the end of 2021. Rapper Fabolous, for whom Jahkoy opened early in his career, was among a group of featured collaborators that also included Pleasure P, Ye Ali, and Amaal. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
