Biography
Starting in the 1990s, studio engineer Scott Solter recorded, mixed, and/or produced albums for Actionslacks, Boxharp, the Court Spark, Crooked Jades, Ester Drang, Extra Glenns, For Stars, Frankenixon, Grain USA, Howard Hello, Lazarus, the Monolith, the Mountain Goats, Okkervil River, Sciflyer, Liam Singer, Spoon, Tarentel, 31Knots, Time Spent Driving, Two Gallants, John Vanderslice, Ral Partha Vogelbacher, and the Jim Yoshii Pile-Up, among others. He made his debut as a solo recording artist with the album The Brief Light, released on Manifold Records. His second solo album, One River, was released by Tell-All on May 30, 2006. In addition, he was a member of Michael Zapruder's Rain of Frogs, playing vibraphone on the band's 2006 album, New Ways of Letting Go, as well as engineering and mixing the release. Solter recorded Stowaway, an album by the Philadelphia trio Pattern Is Movement, at Tiny Telephone, a recording studio in San Francisco owned by Vanderslice. In early 2006, Solter moved from the West Coast to North Carolina, where he reworked the Stowaway tapes to create the remix album Canonic: Scott Solter Plays Pattern Is Movement, released by the Boulder, CO-based independent label Hometapes on October 10, 2006. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
