Biography
Poet Harumi Makino Smith has recorded her readings of original poetry with musicians including Wadada Leo Smith, Joseph Jarman and George Lewis. Born in Hokkaido, Japan, she began writing poetry and novellas during high school. In 1993, Harumi published her first book of poems, -Usagi No Mimi. Four years later, she completed a novella entitled -Mashiri No Gotoku. Harumi often gives live readings of her poetry, and recorded reading for Wadada Leo Smith's 1996 Tzadik release, Tao-Njia, his 1998 release on Wobbly Rail, Condor, Autumn Wind, and his follow-up on Tzadik the next year, Light Upon Light. Harumi has also collaborated with musicians including John Tchicai, George Lewis, Thurman Barker, Joseph Jarman and Nels Cline. ~ Joslyn Layne, Rovi
