Quaeschning & Schnauss
from Berlin, Germany
Biography
Thorsten Quaeschning and Ulrich Schnauss, two German electronic musicians who joined pioneering kosmische group Tangerine Dream during the 21st century, also record music as a duo. Much in the vein of many of Tangerine Dream's best-known albums and soundtracks, the music produced by Quaeschning Schnauss is hypnotic and spacy but also highly complex, with vivid melodies and swiftly evolving rhythms created using analog synthesizers and sequencers. Quaeschning began touring with Tangerine Dream in 2004 and joined the group during the following year, while Schnauss had released several highly acclaimed albums of shoegaze-influenced downtempo electronic music prior to joining the band in 2014. After founder Edgar Froese passed away in early 2015, the remaining members of the group (Quaeschning, Schnauss, and violinist/cellist Hoshiko Yamane) continued working as Tangerine Dream, eventually finishing music that was conceptualized with Froese before his death. Quaeschning Schnauss' debut album as a duo, Synthwaves, was issued by Azure Vista Records in 2017. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
