The son of American folksinger Tom Paley, Ben Paley has taken his musical roots a step further. In addition to playing American folk, old-timey blues, and country music, Paley has incorporated Swedish fiddle tunes, Irish folk songs, and klezmer music into his ever-growing repertoire. His book, -Swedish Fiddle Music: An Anthology, is one of the leading authorities on the subject. Paley, who was raised in North Carolina and taught by traditional fiddler Jim Buchanan, has explored a variety of outlets for his creativity. Since the mid-'80s, he's performed with the Levellers, Chris Wood, and Michael Nyman, and recorded with the New Deal String Band, Wild Turkey Brothers, the Saw Doctors, and Mandragore. Together with his father, Paley recorded an album of Swedish fiddle tunes, Svenska Latar, that included his original composition, Aine's Brudpolska.
