Cama de Gato
Biography
The Cama de Gato group was formed in 1982 by the experienced sessionmen Mauro Senise (saxophone and flute), Pascoal Meirelles (drums), Rique Pantoja (keyboards), Nilson Matta (bass) and Romero Lubambo (guitar). Two years later, Romero and Nilson moved to New York. With the addition of Arthur Maia, the quintet was transformed into a quartet. The first album, Cama de Gato (1986), sold 70,000 copies, an impressive cipher for an instrumental album in Brazil. To promote their Guerra Fria (1988), they toured Spain in 1989 and performed in Paris, Brussels, and New York, at the Town Hall. With the moving of Rique Pantoja to Los Angeles in 1992, Jota Moraes joined the group. Dança Da Lua, was recorded the following year with percussionist Mingo Araújo, who had accompanied Paul Simon in his world tour, as a guest artist. The Cama de Gato released their fifth CD in 1995, Amendoim Torrado. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
