A prominent figure in Christian rock since the early '90s, Powell began a transition to a more secular, country-oriented style with his eponymous 2012 solo debut which he recorded while Third Day was still active. Another solo release, Southpaw, appeared two years later and leaned even harder on the Georgia native's country roots. By 2018, Third Day had announced their impending breakup and, following the band's farewell tour, Powell assembled his next project, the Family Reunion. Populated by members from his previous solo recordings and touring bands, the group issued their first release in late 2018 with a playful set of Christmas classics called December. A proper debut, Back Again, appeared in July of the following year. ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
