Biography
Black Dub was formed in 2009 by producer, guitarist, and songwriter Daniel Lanois with bassist Daryl Johnson, drummer Brian Blade, and vocalist/keyboardist Trixie Whitley (daughter of the late singer songwriter Chris Whitley). The band began recording their rehearsals on audio and video while shopping for a deal, posting the videos on YouTube. The musical mixture is a heady, steamy, nocturnal brew of rock, New Orleans-inspired funk, soul, reggae, and Americana. They recorded their self-titled debut in various locations, and decided on releasing the set on Red Ink, which is distributed by Jive. They also began playing a limited live engagements in anticipation of the forthcoming release and posting some of these performances on their website. The album's release was delayed, however, when Lanois was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in July of 2010. After a fairly miraculous recovery, the album was finally issued in the late fall of 2010 and garnered favorable reviews. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi
