K'Valentine
from Chicago, IL
Biography
Chicago native K'Valentine grew up on hip-hop and poetry, naturally leading her to a career as a rap artist. A chance encounter with poet laureate Maya Angelou inspired her to further dedicate herself to writing, and after reading her work at various spoken word events, she began transitioning her poems into lyrics. Proving to be a fiery force behind the mike, K'Valentine released a pair of mixtapes, 2011's Breakfast at Tiffany's and 2013's K'Valentine's Day, before signing with Talib Kweli's Javotti Media label. Under Kweli's guidance, she began recording her full-length debut while collaborating and contributing to other releases on the label. Produced by Kweli, K'Valentine's first LP, Here for a Reason, arrived in early 2017 and featured guest spots from BJ the Chicago Kid, Scotty ATL, Tweet, and Kweli himself. ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
