Biography
Catherine Collard was a French classical pianist whose specialties included Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Claude Debussy, and Franz Joseph Haydn. Born on August 11, 1947, she studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and proceeded over the course of her career to perform works by not only Schumann, Brahms, Debussy, and Haydn but also Johann Sebastian Bach, Gilbert Amy, César Franck, Edvard Grieg, Olivier Messiaen, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sergei Prokofiev, Maurice Ravel, Erik Satie, Franz Liszt, and Arnold Schoenberg. Some of her Schumann performances from the 1970s were later compiled for reissue by the labels Erato Disques and Apex. In the wake of Collard's death on October 10, 1993, the label Ina compiled a collection titled Les Jeunes Années (1998) comprised of Bach, Liszt, Schoenberg, Ravel, Debussy, Franck, Messiaen, and Amy performances. In addition, the label Lyrinx compiled a three-volume collection of her Haydn performances, Haydn: Sonates Pour Piano, Vols. 1-3 (1998). ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
