Biography
Aaron Abernathy, aka AB (or Ab), is an R&B musician who writes, sings, and produces. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he is related to civil rights leader Ralph Abernathy and grew up surrounded by music. While attending Howard University in Washington, D.C., Abernathy founded AB the Souljourners, a group that released an independent album, Lyrically Inclined 1.3: The Odyssey, in 2005. Touring led to connections with Eric Roberson, as well as Slum Village, who employed Abernathy as musical director for several years and collaborated with him in the studio. Abernathy toured with another major Detroit figure, Black Milk, and appeared on the producer/rapper's Tronic, Album of the Year, and No Poison No Paradise sets. The year 2012 saw the release of AB's own self-released Prologue, a solid showcase for his spaced-out, slightly left-of-center, yet relatable sound. A deluxe edition with several bonus cuts -- including "All This Love," on which he was joined by Phonte of the Foreign Exchange -- was issued the following year. In 2014, he worked with Ypsilanti, Michigan-based producer 14KT on Saturn Return, which the duo released on their own. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
