Hailing from Tasmania, Martin Kennedy grew up a fan of sci-fi books and films. He also became interested in music in his youth listening to spacy albums by artists like Pink Floyd, Jean Michel Jarre, and Brian Eno. He was a member of the indie rock outfit Pray TV before launching All India Radio in the late '90s. Combining his love of vintage psychedelic and space rock with modern, ambient electronic textures, he has issued a steady flow of albums including 2001's All India Radio on Pinnacle, 2005's Echo Other on Minty Fresh, and 2016's The Slow Light on Minty Fresh. Although he writes and records much of the music on his own, he often collaborates with artists like Mark Wendt, Selena Cross, Leona Gray, Josh Roydhouse, Ben Sims, and Michael Evans-Barker.
In 2004, he issued a solo album, The Big Spaceship, which caught the ear of the Church's Steve Kilbey. Together, they have collaborated on a separate series of albums as Kilbey Kennedy, including 2011's White Magic, 2015's Inside We Are the Same, and 2017's Glow and Fade. Kilbey also contributes occasionally to All India Radio albums. In 2019, Kennedy returned to his work as All India Radio with the albums Undulate and Eternal. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
