Biography
Rupert the Red Devils were an early British Invasion-era, racially integrated ska/rock band. An unreleased 1962 recording, It's for You, appears on the compilation The In Crowd: U.K. Mod RB/Beat 1964-1967. Actually, it sounds like a Merseybeat-ska hybrid, and indeed, too Merseybeat-influenced to be from 1962; perhaps 1963 might have been its true recording date. The song's pretty catchy, although it suffers from some out-of-tune spots. The most renowned member of the band was guitarist Ray Fenwick, who later played with the Syndicats and a post-Steve Winwood Spencer Davis Group. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
