Biography
New York multi-instrumentalist, composer, sound artist, writer, and recording engineer Joseph Branciforte crosses over effortlessly between the worlds of jazz, improvised, electronic, and contemporary music, both solo and with his "garage-chamber" ensemble the Cellar and Point.

An alumnus of Berklee College's electronic production and design course, Branciforte primarily earned his keep as an engineer, overseeing jazz recordings by such names as Ben Monder, Vijay Iyer, Eliane Elias, and Nels Cline; he also worked with experimental and alternative names like Son Lux and the Lumineers. After early high school musical experiments with his childhood friend, guitarist Chris Botta, the pair went on to form the "garage-chamber" ensemble the Cellar and Point. The group's debut album, Ambit, was issued in 2014 by Cuneiform; Branciforte recorded and produced it, as well as playing drums, piano, and synth. The album's unique combination of chamber writing for strings and vibraphone with experimental rock, jazz, and electronic elements was hailed by critics. In 2019, Branciforte launched a label, Greyfade, which shared its name with his Brooklyn studio. Its first release was a duo album by him with acclaimed jazz vocalist Theo Bleckmann. A largely improvised, "lowercase" experimental electronic release, in the vein of labels like 12k and Line, LP1 was recorded during rehearsal sessions for a concert with Ryuichi Sakamoto. Branciforte is also a writer, his work having appeared in Tiny Mix Tapes and Tape Op magazines. ~ John D. Buchanan, Rovi
