Steve Duncan
Biography
Steve Duncan was the product of a musical background. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, he started playing guitar at the age of seven. His father, known as Roy Snede, had a television show that came out of Visalia and was broadcast up and down the central valley. A favorite in Bakersfield, Snede was a member of the Grand Ole Opry and the Louisiana Hayride. At the age of 14 Duncan began playing the drums and expanding his horizons while working with his father's Western swing band. A life-long player, he evolved into a top-flight performer and stick man. In 1975 Rick Nelson asked Duncan to move to Los Angeles and become the drummer for his Stone Canyon Band. For three and a half years Steve Duncan kept Nelson on track. Noted for his ability to play a wide variety of styles, Duncan never limited himself, and worked with the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, the Palomino Riders, Roger Miller, Carl Perkins, the Desert Rose Band, former Stray Cat Lee Rocker, Ronnie Mack's Barn Dance Band and was an official member of the Hellecasters. Duncan also was with the Desert Rose Band, and as a studio musician his credits included Rose Maddox, Emmylou Harris, Freddy Fender, John Denver, Steve Wariner and many more. Duncan also served as a member of the on-air backing band for the ACM award shows, and was the drummer for the house band on Dick Clark's Hot Country Nights television show. ~ Jana Pendragon, Rovi
