Brett Dancer
from Kalamazoo, MI
Biography
After first hearing Chicago house in 1986 and then working alongside Jay Denham and Fanon Flowers while he attended Western Michigan University, Brett Dancer left the Midwest, trading nearby Chicago and Detroit for New York in late 1993. Upon arriving to New York, he built upon the production experience he had attained in Kalamazoo with Denham's Black Nation label, ambitiously starting his own record label, Trackmode. With his own personal label, Dancer began releasing deep house music, heavily influenced by the sounds of both Chicago and Detroit. Furthermore, he also began releasing records on his label by some of these two Midwestern cities' most respected artists: Anthony Shakir, Larry Heard, Alton Miller, Boo Williams, Rick Wade, and Theo Parrish, among others. In addition to providing an outlet for quality house music, Dancer has also earned substantial respect among the house community for his own productions, many of which are featured on Trackmode along with an excellent contribution to Mike Grant's burgeoning Moods Grooves label in Detroit. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
