Kyle Hall
from Detroit, MI
Biography
Detroit native Kyle Hall was 15 years old when he made his debut on Omar-S' FXHE label. Released in October 2007, "Plastik-Ambash" was a challenging, primitive-yet-complex single-sided 12” that barely hinted at Hall's creative power. From 2008 through 2010, he issued seven 12" singles on his own Wild Oats and Motor City vet Mike Grant's Moods Grooves, as well as London-based labels Third Ear and Hyperdub. The best among these were "Kaychunk" and "Solar Funk" (the latter technically credited to KMFH) -- unclassifiable tracks that absorbed a multitude of influences while sounding like the work of no one else. Hall's richly layered and emotive output was embraced by a wide range of producers and DJs from house, techno, and dubstep circles. By early 2011, Hall had also remixed tracks by the dubstep-turned-synth pop act Darkstar, deep house stalwart Dennis Ferrer, electro-techno producer Space Dimension Controller, and Detroit garage rockers the Dirtbombs. Debut full-length The Boat Party arrived via Wild Oats in 2013, followed by From Joy in 2015. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
