Endemic Void
Biography
Easy-chair jungle outfit Endemic Void have carried out one of the more successful fusions of jazz, dub, and spacy ambient atmospherics in a drum'n'bass context. The one-man project of dance music producer Danny Koffey (previously known for his work with more straightforward acid house and techno outfits Slipstream and Strictly Rockers), Endemic Void began as a side-project deviation from the rigid demands of those groups, although the project's popularity quickly transformed it to full-time status. Signing with ex-Moody Boyz Tony Thorpe's Language label in 1995, Endemic Void released a 12-inch and the debut Equations LP in 1996, which earned instant praise as some of the most listenable examples of drum'n'bass to still maintain a hard, innovative edge. Remixes for artists such as Meat Beat Manifesto and the Swedish Dot label's Quant followed, with Reinforced's Shogun and No-U-Turn's Nico Sykes in turn trying their hands at EV originals. EV tracks have also been featured on popular compilations such as Breakbeat Science. ~ Sean Cooper, Rovi
