Automatic formed in 2017, consisting of synthesizer player Izzy Glaudini, drummer Lola Dompé (formerly of Blackblack, and the daughter of Bauhaus' Kevin Haskins), and bassist Halle Saxon-Gaines, with all three members sharing vocals. The trio quickly began playing shows, including dates opening for Poptone, a band which includes Dompé's father as well as her sister, Diva. Automatic gained a local following for their energetic performances and released a self-titled EP in 2018. After signing with Stones Throw in 2019, the trio issued the single "Calling It," backed with a cover of Delta 5's "Mind Your Own Business." This preceded their full-length debut, Signal, which appeared in late September. Signal Remixes followed in 2020, with contributors including Sudan Archives, Peaking Lights, Peanut Butter Wolf, and John Dwyer. Excess, the band's second album, arrived in 2022, with lyrics about consumer culture and finding solidarity instead of despair while the world is in danger. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
