Abby Travis
Biography
Hollywood, CA, native Abby Travis began her musical career with the all-girl band the Lovedolls, who recorded a single album, 1991's Love One Another. She parlayed that gig into session and touring work as a bassist and singer with an astonishingly eclectic array of artists, ranging from the Meat Puppets to El Vez to erstwhile Monkee Peter Tork. After playing with Beck and Elastica at the 1995 Lollapalooza festival, she embarked on a solo career that would prove to be just as diverse as the artists with whom she had worked. Her first solo album, 1998's The Abby Travis Foundation, was issued on a tiny label with the unwieldy name of You Seem Like a Nice Well Adjusted Person Records. The album's collision of gothic and cabaret elements in both style and substance garnered her a significant cult following, which she further capitalized on with the late-2000 release of Cutthroat Standards Black Pop, another album in the same highly dramatic vein. ~ Joseph McCombs, Rovi
