Biography
Kip Lornell, who works on music projects for the Smithsonian Institute, has a doctorate in ethnomusicology, a master's in folklore, and a bachelor's degree in cultural studies. He is the author of Introducing American Folk Music; Leadbelly: King of the Twelve String Guitar; Virginia's Blues; Country and Gospel Records: 1902-1943; and Happy in the Service of the Lord: Afro-American Gospel Quartets in Memphis. He has received many grants, nominations, and awards, has been a consultant and contributor for many publications, and has written reviews, media productions, and liner notes.
